Terms of service
Written in plain English, because terms you can’t read aren’t terms. This draft is awaiting solicitor review; where it is silent, the law of England and Wales applies.
1. What we provide
Planning Policy provides automated planning screening reports for addresses in England: a free designation check, a Standard report (£50) and a Pro report (£99). Reports are built from official public data and held policy texts, as described on the methodology page.
2. What a report is — and is not
A report is a professional screening document: what applies at an address, what the official data shows, and what to consider. It is not legal advice, not a planning decision, not a guarantee of any outcome, and not a substitute for advice from your local planning authority or a qualified professional on complex matters. Only your council can decide a planning application.
3. Data accuracy and honest gaps
We verify every policy quote against its stored official source before a report renders, and we state what was and wasn’t found. But we rely on official datasets that councils populate at different rates, and source documents change. Where data is missing or unparseable, reports say so rather than guessing. You should confirm requirements with your local planning authority before starting work.
4. Payment and refunds
Payments are one-off and processed by Stripe; we do not hold your card details. If a paid report fails to generate, we will complete it or refund you in full. Because a report is personalised digital content delivered immediately, you agree that delivery begins at purchase; this does not affect your statutory rights, including where content is faulty or misdescribed.
5. Your report, your use
Your report is yours to keep, print and share with your architect, builder or surveyor. The underlying policy texts remain Crown copyright / GLA copyright, reproduced under the Open Government Licence; our compilation, analysis and report format remain ours.
6. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Otherwise, our total liability in connection with a report is limited to the price you paid for it. We are not liable for decisions you take without confirming requirements with your local planning authority, or for losses arising from errors in the official source data we faithfully reproduce.
7. Fair use of the free check
The free check is for genuine property research. We rate-limit automated or bulk use; if you need data at volume, contact us instead — hello@planningpolicy.co.uk.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
